My Sympathies to the East Coast - Earthquakes Happen.
Sincerely, I feel for those on the East coast rattled this morning by a shallow 5.9 earthquake. Now living in California where faults are plentiful, I can remember my first experience with one as a transplant from Illinois to Upland, Ca. Coffee cups rattled across a glass topped table and things started to vibrate. The sense of disorientation and confusion was amazing. even my friends in the west will remember the Whittier Narrows Quake in the late 80s, just as my Virginia Rainmaking friends are probably felt earlier. Now that it is over, you all can look back on it and share the experiences.
By the way, the description "shallow" is not to minimize anything. Shallow quakes seem to have a different movement pattern, that's all.... but then you will learn much more from the news as the day goes on.
The serious side - Be prepared for the unexpected. Got a CERT Class in your area? Might be advisable to look into that.
