A Memory:
In my childhood, Memorial Day meant a parade led by the V.F.W. finally arriving at the cemetary. A ceremony of honor and thanks to soldiers, our vets and loved ones lost was attended by most in the small town. I remember the gun salute, the reading of the "Flanders Field" poem, the grave markers with the small flags for the veterans, the red, white and blue banners on the temporary stage, the bugler playing taps and the eco.
Wouldn't it be special for you to teach your kids how important this is. Find a grave side service in your area this Memorial Day. You can Tivo the race on tv, and the hot dogs will wait 'til you get home.
And when you are there, just shake some soldiers or veterans hand.... just say "Thanks".
